  • Concept Explanation

    Introduction: In the world around us, objects having different shapes are observed. Most objects that we can see or touch have one thing in common, they all occupy space. They have three dimensions – length, breadth and height and are referred to as 3D objects.
    The pen you hold, the book you read, the chocolate you ate, etc. are 3D objects.Shapes such as triangle, rectangle and square are two dimensional shapes (2D), as theydo not have depth (or) height and have only one surface.

    Solid:  A solid is a 3 – dimensional geometrical figure which occupies some space. The dimensions are length (I), breadth (b) and height (h).

    Solid shapes and their nets:
    What is Net? A pattern that you can cut and fold to make a model of a solid shape is called net.

    Nets of solid shapes: A net is a 2-dimensional shape that can be folded to form a 3-dimensional solid. It is also the arrangement of polygons with their edges joined. Nets are helpful when we need to find the surface area of the solids.

    Net of a cube: A cube is a three-dimensional shape with six equal square faces.

    2. Euler’s Formula: For any polyhedron that does not intersect itself,

    V – E + F = 2 (or) V + F = E + 2

    where F is number of faces, V is number of vertices and E is number of edges
