How should one start Preparing for IIT JEE?

How should one Prepare for IIT JEE

Congratulations for starting your IIT JEE preparations. You may be in Class 6th or Class 12th, it is never too early and never too late to start your preparations. Although, waiting till the last is not a good strategy when it comes to IIT JEE and we highly suggest that you start as soon as possible.

Other than hard work, diligence and discipline are some effective ways here to start your preparations.

Be ahead of your Class syllabus: Go prepared to your class by pre-studying the topic going on in your school. This helps you building better understanding of the concepts.

Do not restrict yourself to the text books. Refer some of the books written by eminent writers. For example, after completing all the topics and subtopics in your Chemistry textbook, you can refer authors like J.D. Lee, Morrison and Boyd. While selecting your study material, contact your teachers and seniors.

If you can easily handle even the difficult questions of your book, you can go one step further by studying the next class chapters. For example, If you are in 8th class, you can try to learn some of the concepts of 9th class too.

Always be asking questions: Never hesitate to ask questions in your class. No question is silly or too basic. Students who ask a lot of questions, understand the concepts better and gain more marks. Do not worry about what will your classmates or teacher think of you. Have a question? Just ask it!

Make use of technology:  Take advantage of latest technology such as online training and m-learning. Make use of Internet to find study material, mock tests, and other useful resources.

Online Practice Tests & Previous Test Papers: Make it a habit to attempt some of the online practice tests freely available over Internet. Practice some of the IIT-JEE test papers of previous years too.

Analyse it: After taking a test, analyze your performance to find your weak areas and opportunity areas (where you scored well) by topic and subtopic wise.

Prepare an attack plan: After getting the report, spend more time on the topics and subjects at which you are weak. Your opportunity areas are the topics in which you can score more than others, so do not ignore them completely, keep practicing them once in awhile.

Get Training: You may want to join a course for a more structured approach to your preparation. A course also gives you access to expert teachers, effective course material, tests and guidance. If you are in middle school, you can go for an online IIT JEE Foundation Course, like the one Edvie offers (details of the course) and if you are in Class 11th / 12th then you can go for a IIT JEE Preparation course.

Follow these advice to get started for IIT JEE in the right way. We wish you success and hope to see you in IIT one day!

Foreign Universities that consider JEE Score for UG Courses in Engineering

Foreign Universities that consider JEE Score for UG Courses in Engineering

Most of the foreign universities expect students to possess a minimum of 12-13 years of academic education with top grades. They should score well in aptitude and language proficiency exams. The universities outside India give weightage to various factors such as exceptional achievements, teamwork, community service and volunteer work. Owing to its reputation, some of the international institutions have started admitting Indian students based on their IIT-JEE score. The National University of Singapore accepts both JEE Main and Advanced Score for admission into its undergraduate (UG) programmes.

Apart from your academic merit, you may get some brownie points for your achievements in competitive exams and co-curricular activities. The university accepts admissions based on International Science Olympiad Medals too.

As India is one of the rapidly emerging economies in the world, let us hope that various foreign universities follow the path of National University of Singapore and start accepting IIT-JEE and other national level engineering examinations conducted by Indian educational boards.

Can International Students go to an IIT?

International student.001

IITs are the most reputed engineering colleges in India. Many aspiring engineers dream to study in IITs. Recently, IITs started conducting the entrance test in foreign countries this year. Now, foreign students can also join IITs. The higher authorities of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made this plan to promote the IITs at international level. Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) took this decision.

The board has decided to conduct the entrance test in foreign countries to select the foreign students for Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) courses in engineering.

Countries to participate: The board is set to conduct IIT entrance test in different countries such as Singapore, UAE, and three SAARC countries. The board is planning to commence exam centres in these six countries:

  • Colombo (Sri Lanka)
  • Kathmandu (Nepal)
  • Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)
  • Dubai (UAE)
  • Singapore

In the past too, Dubai JEE was conducted for the students who were studying in CBSE Schools. It was held to admit Indian nationals only. Now, it is planning to enhance its reputation across the globe.

Criticism: Though people appreciate the initiative of IIT-JEE board to attract foreign students, it has received some criticism too. The prime criticism is that the foreign students have been receiving undue and unfair advantage.

The new policy allows the foreign students, from six countries, to appear directly to JEE (Advanced) if they secure minimum 75% marks in Class 12th or its equivalent exam. Indian students have to qualify JEE (Mains) and JEE(Advanced) to join IIT. The board conducts the admission process based on rank obtained in IIT-JEE(Advanced).

Code of conducts and regulations

According to IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB), Chennai, the foreign candidates have to upload the following to get admission into JEE exams:

  • Birth certificate
  • Mark sheet of Class 12th
  • Identity proof of the candidate
  • Citizenship certificate
  • Passports of the parents of the candidate

The board has, however, clarified that the seats for the foreign students will only be the addition to existing seats. It does not reduce the available seats for the Indian candidates.

Joint Admission Board (JAB), Chennai, stated ‘the number of seats will not exceed 10 percent of the total seats in each course offered by the IITs.Moreover, foreign students will not be allowed to make use ofreservation facility of ST, SC, OBC, and PWD categories.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is planning to provide research visas to the foreign students taking admission into IITs  for a period equal to their course duration. Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has assured that there will not  be any discrimination between Indian students and foreign students while providing facilities and education. IITs charge more fee from the foreign students and they will not receive any kind of  subsidies.

IIT Bombay is appointed as the National Coordinator to organize IIT-JEE in these foreign countries.

The IIT board is set to follow this initiative from this new academic year 2017-18. Many foreign candidates are set to participate in admission and counseling procedure this year.

JEE Mains and JEE Advanced: Differences You Should Know

Every year, more than 12 lakh students appear for the JEE Main, making it one of the toughest exams in the world. When they are starting,  some students may be confused about  the difference between IIT JEE Main exam and IIT JEE Advanced exam. Let us discuss about the difference between IIT-JEE and IIT-Advanced.

JEE-Main: A gateway to NITs & IIITs

CBSE conducts this entrance test and its score acts as the basis for the admission into the following institutions:

  • National Institutes of Technology (NITs)
  • Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)
  • Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs)
  • Engineering colleges run by the participating states

It also acts as an eligibility test which allows the students to appear for the JEE Advanced exam.

Pattern of JEE-Main: It is conducted in both offline and online modes and contains two papers namely Paper 1 and Paper 2. The students can appear for either or both of the papers.

  • Paper 1: CBSE conducts it  for the students who want admission in Undergraduate Engineering Course. It is held both in online and offline modes.
  • Paper 2: It is for the students who want to join B.Arch and B.Planning courses. It is conducted in offline mode alone.

Limit on attempts: The students can give three attempts for JEE Main exams.

Syllabus of JEE-Main: JEE Main exams is conducted based on the CBSE Class 11 and 12 syllabus of three subjects namely Mathematics,  Physics, and Chemistry.

JEE Advanced:An entrance test for IITs

It is an entrance exam conducted by the IITs for the admission into the following institutes:

  • Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)
  • Other institutes like the Indian School of Mines (ISM)

Pattern of JEE-Advanced: It is a paper-based test held only in offline method. This test contains Paper 1 and Paper 2. The students should clear both Paper 1 and Paper 2 in the exam. If your marks are higher than ‘cut-off marks’ set by the Joint Implementation Committee, you can get ‘Pass’ status.

Limit on attempts: You can appear for the exam for only two consecutive years.

Students, who want admission into Architecture courses offered by IITs, should appear for the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT), conducted by zonal IITs, after clearing the JEE Advanced exam.

Syllabus of JEE-Advanced: Apart from the CBSE Class 11 and 12 syllabus of three subjects namely Mathematics,  Physics, and Chemistry, the JEE Advanced contains a few extra topics.

The following are some of the topics included in the Physics syllabus of JEE Advanced but not in JEE Main are:

  • Newton’s Law of Cooling
  • Absorptive and Emissive Powers
  • Wein’s Displacement Law
  • Kirchoff’s law
  • Stefan’s Law
  • Blackbody radiation

The following are some of the topics included in the Chemistry syllabus of JEE Advanced but not in JEE Main are:

  • Alpha, beta & gamma rays: Introduction & Their Properties
  • Stability of nuclei & proton-neutron ratio
  • Fission & fusion reactions: Basic Introduction
  • Equivalent Conductivity
  • Kinetics of radioactive decay
  • Carbon dating
  • Radioactivity

The students, who want to crack IIT-JEE Advanced test, should know the concepts and their applications in-depth. Based on your ambition, decide to appear for either IIT-JEE Main or IIT-JEE Advanced or both. If your aim is to get into NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs, appear for IIT-JEE Main. If your ambition is to get into IIT, you have to appear for both the tests.

Starting Early For IIT JEE is Easier Than Ever Now

IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is a national level engineering entrance examination held annually for the admission into IIT. The entrance test curriculum contains three subjects namely Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and is largely based on CBSE syllabus. Questions based on application of multiple concepts in a single problem are common for JEE. If you want to know the difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced you can read this blog.

Our IIT-JEE foundation course usually begins from 6th class and continues till 10th class. It covers Math, Physics and Chemistry from basic to advanced level. As IIT JEE is one of the toughest admission tests in the world, it is highly important for the students to start IIT-JEE Foundation preparation from their school days itself.

Students and parents can contact our Help Desk if they have any queries related to enrollment process, fee, and class details.

This is how Class 10 students can prepare for IIT JEE

How Class 10th students can prepare for IIT JEE

Now, you are in 10th class and are busy with the preparation for the board exams for the first time in your life. Parents usually think that their child cannot focus on any other thing expect their academic subjects. However, if you plan your preparation well, you can attend IIT-JEE Foundation along with your regular syllabus.

If you do smart work, the foundation classes do not affect your regular academic course but, in fact, they enhance your preparation for regular course. The foundation classes usually commence in summer vacation itself and continue for 9 months. Hence, if you join the course in April or May, you can complete the course in  December or January. 10th class exams are held usually in March. You can prepare for your 10th class in February and March with full focus and dedication.

It is sufficient for the students to spend just one hour a day for attending the IIT-JEE foundation classes. Hence, the students can concentrate more on their regular academic subjects without any deviation.

The foundation classes enhance the conceptual clarity among the students. They enhance the analytical and problem-solving skills of the students and helps the students to crack IIT-JEE with an ease. As young minds can easily grasp new concepts and learning exercises, the 10th class is the right to time join the foundation course.

In the foundation course, students can revise all the concepts of different subjects of their previous classes before attending 10th class board exam. In fact, it acts as added advantage to appear for the board exam at the end of the academic year and IIT-JEE in future. In Intermediate, the students may not find time to do it as they will be busy with their regular academics.

Some of the IIT-JEE foundation institutes conduct a few special classes for clarifying their doubts in various topics and subtopics of the board syllabus, on the request of  the students for some help in their 10th class final exam preparation. Hence, if you plan your preparation schedule well, you can prepare for both the board exam and the foundation course.

Class 9 students can also prepare for IIT JEE

Class 9 students can also prepare for IIT JEE

Dear 9th class students,

We know that many of you are IIT aspirants. We would like to share some tips with you for joining IIT JEE coaching as you are set to enter IIT-JEE world after completing your 10th class. It is the right time for you to build your foundation for your IIT dreams. You have two options: one is to prepare on your own and another option is to join some IIT-Foundation coaching institute.

If you commence your preparation from 9th class itself, you can get more time for revising all the fundamental concepts and formulas of Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Early preparation stretches your mind and expands the boundaries of your thought process.

Several IIT aspirants start IIT-JEE preparation from 11th standard/Inter without any prior preparation during their highschool days. Commencing the preparation from the early school years is  a better approach for the students. Now, you are in 9th class and hence, we suggest you to commence your IIT preparation now onwards.

Here are some of the reasons why it is advisable for the IIT aspirants to commence their preparation from 9th class itself.

  • The students, who directly join IIT-JEE coaching in their Intermediate, may feel it difficult to understand various topics which are covered in-depth in IIT training.
  • The students may even feel stress and strain as they have to understand, learn, practice and revise all the topics and subtopics along with their Intermediate preparation.
  • If you commence your preparation now, you can get more time to practice various concepts related to IIT-JEE.
  • The IIT-JEE tests you on the deeper understanding levels of the student about various topics and concepts. Prior preparation helps you learn various topics and concepts in depth from your high school days.
  • In 9th class, the students study various concepts in chemistry such as atomic structure, periodic classification, chemical bonding, behaviour of gases, chemical kinetics, and chemical equilibrium. The school curriculum focuses on ‘concepts’ more than its applications. But, most of the questions asked in IIT-JEE are application based questions and they are usually the combination of two or more concepts. Hence, only the textbook knowledge of the concepts may not be sufficient to crack the IIT-JEE. Hence, the  early commencement of IIT-JEE preparation fills the gap between academic curriculum and the pattern of IIT-JEE examination.
  • Early preparation helps you to build strong foundation in Math, Physics and Chemistry. It is enough if you spend one hour everyday.
  • It helps the students for the increased complexity and volume of the curriculum for Inter and IIT JEE.

An early introduction of various concepts related to STEM subjects such as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry tunes your mind to appear for IIT-JEE with confidence and enthusiasm. It enhances your problem solving skills and conceptual knowledge. Hence, dear 9th class students, it is the right time for you to commence your preparation for IIT-JEE.
